Who Am I
GET TO KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I am a part German and Jamaican growing up in New York City and currently attending the Rudolf Steiner school in Manhattan. I feel I am someone defined by what I take upon myself to do in my spare time. My key extracurriculars include work in diversity, social activism, poetry, and my love for music. Along with these, I have many interests such as Soccer and babysitting, and have recently begun modeling. I have had certain difficulties in my life that have taken my focus away from my personal and academic goals. Since early-mid 2023, I have been working to improve and bring myself back together to become the person I know I can be. I am looking to connect with people who feel a similar way about life as I do and have shared unique experiences and interests.
MY MUSICAL TALENTS
I've been playing the saxophone for the past eight years of my life. Not only do I play in my school band but a few of my friends and I often gather about once a month and play some jazz; during the springtime, we often go to Prospect Park here in Brooklyn and just play for the people passing by. Playing publicly helps me feel as though I am giving back in a way to the world around me. I love the sound of music, and knowing how peaceful it can be gives me hope that I evoke the same peace within a stranger hearing my tunes.
MY LANGUAGE DIVERSITY
I am fluent in multiple languages, English, German, Spanish; and am currently learning French. I feel this has been a major factor in shaping the person that I am because I have been able to communicate with people from various places around the world, especially coming from the diverse city of New York. This has helped me gain an insight into various cultures and has broadened my perspective of religion, people, and way of living. Furthermore, I notice people's general personality varies between each language; I say this because each way of speaking has its unique tone of voice and phrasing pronunciation. For me, this has broadened my personality in the sense that I am more open and creative because I know how to communicate with different people in different types of ways.
MY LOVE FOR POETRY
I am someone who loves poetry, often when I am sitting alone, I will turn my thoughts into poems. They may be random or may have to do with how I feel in the moment but for me, they are like therapy. I feel there is purity in expressing our thoughts in the form of poetry as we can truly see who we are at our core. For me, letting go of wordy complications and simply writing what my heart feels in a moment, even if it’s only one stanza, brings peace out of me in times when I feel stressed, emotionally in pain, or simply thinking about life. This has crucially affected my more intimate; I see the connection between all things in life and appreciate the joys and pains of my journey in this world.
